Lake Sherwood Real Estate and Information

Lake Sherwood, California

The history of this unincorporated area is both storied and colorful. Lake Sherwood got its name from the fact that it was used as the location for Sherwood Forest in the 1922 film “Robin Hood,” which starred Douglas Fairbanks. When “The Adventures of Robin Hood” was filmed in 1938 starring Errol Flynn, this area also served as a major scene location. Many other Hollywood motion pictures also used Lake Sherwood as a location where it was frequently used for motorboat chases, its neighboring forests were used for Tarzan and Jungle Jim films, and a full-scale Tibetan village was constructed here for the film “Lost Horizon.”

Today, the area serves as the location for many upscale waterfront homes, and nearby is the world-famous Sherwood Country Club. This private golf, tennis and country club is home to a championship 18-hole Jack Nicklaus signature golf course, driving range and clubhouse.

Lake Sherwood has more than 600 residences, some situated in the gated community of large homes around the lake, and others in the surrounding hills. The area is almost completely residential and highly prized, as it is one of the few lakes in Southern California that offers waterfront living along with close access to Los Angeles and the ocean. Because of its charm and exclusivity, it is home to a fair number of sports legends and celebrities. Most residents utilize Thousand Oaks or Westlake Village for their shopping needs.
